This is a series of 4 songfics, but the 4 parts are directly linked in a continuous manner. At first, the guys just came back from a mission where Duo took a hard hit intended for Heero and the two have a little argument because of it. They're all recuperating at Quatre's estate when Relena appears and bugs the hell out of everyone. And that's the nice way of saying it.

Relena is portrayed as a bitter girl who, after finding her dreams of Heero loving her dashed, turns her hurt into hatred for her rival. Still, the actions she takes do not seem too unrealistic. In fact, it sounds like what the real Relena, not the obsessively crazy and pink-loving bimbo most Relena-bashing fics portray her to be, would actually do. Maybe it seems a little extreme for a self-proclaimed pacifist, but take in mind she's only 15. On the other hand, Duo's written in such a vulnerable manner you can't help but fall in love with hi,. He's uncertain of his relationship with Heero, but still very defensive of it when Relena appears. I guess that's what I like about him in this fic.

'The Little Merboy' (archived at GWA)

A retelling of the story of the little mermaid with a twist: Duo's the little merboy instead. So well, I guess most of you out here probably know the story already. But for those of you who haven't a clue, Duo's the merboy who falls desperately in love with a human prince and he takes a potion, courtesy of the sea witch, to become a human as well. So he goes up there to the world of the humans, but if Prince Heero does not love him back, he's doomed.

Seeing that this is one of the first yaoi fics I've ever read, GW or not, it's actually a very memorable piece for me. The fact that it's a fusion with a fairytale just makes it even sweeter, since I'm such a sucker for them.

This is a time travel story which explores the future in which Heero did not survive Wing's self-destruction. Due to Heero's demise, the war didn't play out well and the Gundam pilots are forced into seclusion where they continue to fight in their own way. Their solution is traveling back in time to save Heero.

Although the plot sounds simple enough, it's a rather disturbing fic; I got pretty freaked out while I was reading it. In a way, after Heero's death and the war got really bad, the rest of the pilots started to die emotionally. The biggest clue is the fact that they stopped referring to each other by their names and instead called each other by numbers. And while Duo (or rather, 02) has no physical disfigurement like the other pilots, he has the deepest emotional scar. His indifference to everything but saving Heero's life in the past is so very angsty, but the icing on the cake is the scene where Trowa and Catherine of the past sit together before the fire and converse near the end.

A parody of 'Cinderella', obviously. Relena takes on the role, and she pines away for Prince Heero who's recently returned to his court. When the King organizes a ball in hopes of getting Heero a bride, she decides that she absolutely has to be there.  Enter Duo, the godmother... godfather equivalent and his genie helps grant the wish. Poor Duo gets stuck being her escort for the night and ends up catching the prince's attentions instead. 

Seeing that this is one of my first GW fics (not to mention yaoi), it's got quite an impression on me. Coupled with the fact that it's got fairytale elements and I'm hooked. I'm kinda happy about the fact that Duo got to retain his street-kid characteristics in this fic (because he's still one), so it's a little rugged type of fairytale. Sweet though. I was pretty amused by the genie idea too, but I think this is part of a series and the genie came from the fic before this one... But it doesn't seem to make a difference if you don't read that one.

Fusion with fairytale, sap, cross-over with Aladdin...

Truly my favourite fic of all times. The plot is difficult to explain fully in a summary, but the main idea of the fic is that after the war, Duo gets seriously injured in a salvage job. When he is finally rescued by Heero and Wufei, he is already near death and that kicks every protective instinct the guys have into high mode, especially Heero's.

The thing I really like about this fic is Duo's voice. He is sarcastic, cynical, and carries a lot of bad memories and guilt inside him. Yet, despite that, he knows for a fact what he should and does treasures and his mentality does not head into a downward spiral. Duo talks to his ghosts, mainly Solo, and has hamsters running amok his mind waving banners and such. It sounds stupid, but it isn't. Not really.

The one easing his troubled mind is of course, Heero. However, Heero has burdens of his own, and although he tries his best to protect Duo, it sometimes becomes quite irritating. Still, it is very obvious how much he loves Duo.

Surprising, Trowa turns out to be the one who understands Duo the best, sometimes even better than Heero. And his interaction with Duo is another highlight of the fic.

There are many OCs here in this fic, and all of them serves to give readers better insight into Duo's life before and after his accident. Although there's a lot of them, they do not overwhelm the fic. Instead, they provide a measure of realism and other aspects of life other than love. I especially adore Victoria and Hayden, and the three musketeers.

When a Preventers mission goes haywire, Duo is thrown into a portal that causes him to travel to alternate worlds that are very different from his own. The only thing that the worlds seem to have in common is the wave of darkness that fills his mind before he finds himself in the next world.

Since every world has it's own storyline, this fic has got a pretty diverse plot and pairings. As it is, there's already been 1x2, 5x2 and 2xH and who knows what else will turn up. And I guess that the fact that everything can differ so much between the worlds makes this fic a very interesting read. After all, things do not stagnate; it's always changing. It's the same for the pairings. Also, being a devout Duo fan, this Duo-centric fic is just the right thing to satisfy my thirst for some Duo action. Characters are pretty much fleshed out in different ways and they're different in every world, so readers don't really have an idea of what to expect. My only complaint is that Duo's not any clearer on why he's travelling around the worlds all of a sudden then when he first started, even after so many parts. Somehow, it just makes this fic feel endless and causes it to lose a certain type of linkage between the parts.
